Patience Pays, But only upto a certain limit. When the pot of patience starts overbrimming, the result is AAKROSH..!! Yes, I am narrating about the recently released, less promoted yet highly acclaimed Priyadarshan's movie, Aakrosh. Gone are the days, when Silence used to be the best answer to any situation !! Silence these days, is a sign of fear. The movie clearly depicts both these aspects, very effectively.
Based on a true story, the movie is a classic example of Honour killing. Priyadarshan has been successful in capturing the recent honour killing incidents that happened mostly at haryana in which "Khaap Panchayat" was involved. The movie starts with a tale of three college students, who went missing after they decide to help one of their friends, to elope with his girl friend. The 3 students even after 2 months were not been found anywhere. As such, under the pressure of Students, Indian government sends a team of CBI officials to investigate about the matter.
Ajay Devgan & Akshay Khanna, as a part of the CBI Team rocked the movie. Ajay Devgun, once again with his all expressive eyes had done a brilliant job in depicting himself as an officer on special duty from Indian Army. Akshay Khanna, on the other hand played a senior CBI Official and the officer in charge of this investigation. The duo, after deewangi once again had done totally justice with their respective roles.
But what overshadowed both of them was, the grey shade role played by veteran actor Paresh Rawal. The actor has once again proved his versatility and showed a class blend of humour with negativity. His typical role of an SP of a corrupt police made me really despise him in the movie, but laud him for making me despise him.Bipasha, in a small cameo role was also quite satisfactory.
All the other characters chipped in from time to time, quite beautifully. The story is very gripping, direction is awesome & priyadarshan has made quite a marvellous attempt to showcase the scornful act of honour killing, still prevailing in the 21st century of India. The movie clearly depicts that its the so-called, "Protectors of our society" who are the real criminals. If they tighten the screws, activities like honour killing could never ever happen. The movie compel us to think about these social issues seriously. It compel us to think, whether we really deserve to be a super power by 2020? It also forces us to think, Is society formed by us or we are formed by society? It will definitely upset your soul to question yourself, which is better: LOVE or PRINCIPLES? LIFE or GLORY? FORGIVENESS or EGO? The day we will get true and honest answers to these questions, we will be able to quench our AAKROSH..!!
Not everybody bothers to make movies on such social issues, in an era where only Romance, Sex or comedy is the buzz. We are honoured, to be blessed by the directors like Madhur Bandharkar, Priyadarshan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra who cares to raise such issues and make movies on such topics. Hats off, for taking Indian cinemas to a new height and giving them a direction of social cause. Keep up the good work..!!
Very nicely written Gaurav!
ReplyDelete'Honor killing', in my opinion is a major issue which our society face at large. I think it was there earlier also, but people are getting more aware of this now, as it is getting a lot of media attention these days. You rightly mentioned that on the one hand we are aspiring to become one of the superpower by 2020, and on the other hand, there are people in our society who just because of their ego and self-respect indulge in this. Its high time that people should do-away with the old rituals like 'forcing their daughters to get married within their own caste/community'. If a girls wants to marry a person outside her community, let her be....!! I think, if a nation has to progress, the people of that nation has change their thinking and become broad-minded.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but praise the director for bringing out this subject in front of the whole public through this movie.
All in all, nicely written blog post. Keep writing buddy! :)
